John Richards (he/him) is the Director of Programming, On Air | Host of the Morning Show. KEXP is an independent radio station that bucks the entire system. No DJ is ever asked or forced to play any song at all. They play what they love, they have direct lines of communication with the listeners and the artists.
For most of his adult life John’s been starting the day for thousands of "morning faithful", all who got turned onto the show and made it a staple in their lives. John’s Morning Show is known for its fantastic themes, intimate live performances, and has been responsible for breaking acts like The Lumineers, The National, M83, and many others.
What makes John so special is his belief that music heals and his commitment to using his platform to work with listeners through our toughest issues- grief, depression, loneliness, and anxiety. It’s oxymoronic how intimate he has made the medium of radio, but that’s what he does, with the constant reminder that “you are not alone. music heals.”
